Here Are Some Superfoods to Boost Your Immune System

By Benton Ovdenk

The commonly known method to stay healthy is familiar to most of us. Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Drink enough water so you stay hydrated. Exercise 3-5 times each week. That's nice to know, but they don't get specific and detail exactly what we must do. Some food is better for your health, and your immune system, than others. Superfoods are the name given to any food that provides abundant nutrients, such as those that are beneficial to the immune system. Our focus in this report is to answer the questions: what are these foods? and which ones will strengthen our immune system?

If you want to help your immune system be as healthy as possible, you should eat pork chops. If you don't eat meat, or at least not pork, you probably won't find this superfood useful, even though it's a true superfood. There are times when you are losing weight and it's bad for your health. Eating 6-ounces of pork chops during this critical time can stop the weight loss. When someone is ill, they tend to lose weight. If the sick person eats pork chops, this weight loss can be avoided. Some folks might groan at the thought of eating pork chops every day. We benefit from pork chops because they contain significant amounts of selenium, a natural antioxidant. This is a great cancer fighter. One good thing about pork chops is that there is no limit to the different ways you can cook and serve them. Boredom won't set in, that's for sure.

An herb that can be considered an immune-boosting superfood is peppermint. Peppermint is loaded with calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium. These are all nutrients that help you maintain a healthy immune system. One of the nicer things about peppermint is that it is really easy to eat. Mint tea is a favorite herbal tea for a lot of folks. When you're shopping, pick up a box of those snack mints. You can add it to a salad. When you are making a stew, it makes a great addition to the flavor. There are so many ways to use peppermint. It is very versatile. You can even make it into an oil that you use for seasoning a variety of things.

Salmon has been touted as one of the great superfoods for many reasons. One of the benefits of eating salmon is its ability to optimize your immune system. Salmon has a plentiful supply of omega-3 fatty acids and is high in protein - two components needed to keep your overall health high. Your muscles need protein in order to grow and stay strong so they can fight diseases that invade your body. Omega-3s fight against the omega-6s that are often associated with the germs and bacteria that want to get your body sick. The minimum salmon meals you should plan to have each week are two. The recommendation, however, is three fish meals weekly, but sometimes this is hard to do if you're not a big fan of salmon.

You can find different superfoods to help with whatever health concerns you might have. I've even seen a book with over 100 superfoods explained. For the most part, these are foods that are easy enough to cook into the other foods you eat at meals. We've given you some ideas on how to include three of the immune system boosting superfoods into your daily regimen. Nonetheless, these superfoods are just a small sample of those that can help strengthen your immune system. As you continue to work, research and do your homework, you'll come up with plenty of others.
